New Chairman for the Alcoa Plan

The Alcoa of Australia Retirement Plan has announced the appointment of Mr Gabriel Szondy as Chairman of the Plan.

Mr Szondy’s appointment follows the recent retirement of Chairman Anthony (Tom) Adams, after 16 years of service to the Plan.

Tom applied his vast knowledge and experience as a director, committee Chairman and Chairman of the Plan Board. His contributions to the Plan were in addition to his 35-year career with Alcoa and were characterised by diligence and hard work. Tom will be remembered for his enduring personal commitment to achieving the best retirement outcomes for members. In the words of a fellow director he was “an inspiration to us all.”

We wish Tom well in his retirement.
The Alcoa Plan welcomes Gabriel Szondy, who has a long and distinguished career in superannuation, as the new Chairman. He has over 35 years of experience in the taxation and superannuation industries and was a senior partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers for over a decade.  Gabriel holds a number of other senior appointments including member of the Investment Committee of CareSuper (having previously served as a director), Chairman of Frontier Advisors and Chair of the Centre for Institutional Investors (CII). He was a Fellow of the Association of Superannuation Funds in Australia, a member of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees and a former Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Gabriel has also been Chairman of the Association of Superannuation Funds in Australia's (ASFA) National Taxation Policy Committee, Chairman of the ASFA's Victorian Executive for 12 years, and is a former president of the Melbourne Football Club.

The Alcoa Plan welcomes Gabriel and we look forward to working with him.
