The Alcoa of Australia Retirement Plan's primary purpose is to help provide financial security to you, as an Alcoa World Alumina – Australia, employee and your family through your superannuation.
It provides benefits to members (and dependants) under the following circumstances:
Prior to 1 January 2001, the Plan was a "defined benefit" fund only, which simply meant that the benefits that it provided were "defined" as a multiple of average salary, based upon your membership period.
On 1 January 2001, the Plan introduced a new section, known as the ‘Accumulation Section’. All new employees since that time will have become members of this section. Existing Defined Benefit Section members since that time have the choice of transferring to the Accumulation Section, or opting to remain under the Defined Benefit structure.

The Plan's assets are held in trust to provide benefits for members, and these assets are completely separate to those of Alcoa.
The Plan operates under a legal document called the Trust Deed, and the Trustee, Alcoa of Australia Retirement Plan Pty Ltd, is responsible for ensuring that the Plan is managed in accordance with that Deed.
The Trustee Board consists of six directors, three appointed by Alcoa, and three elected by the Plan's membership.
